Backed by years of experience in the fashion industry, Shelly Socol guides clients on creative, sales, merchandising, brand extension, marketing, and public relations. Drawing from her time as the Creative Director of Accessories at Theory before starting 1R, Shelly approaches each project with a deep understanding of online retail from every angle. She also serves as a retail and e-commerce media resource for news outlets such as Bloomberg, MarketWatch, the Business of Fashion, ModernRetail, E-commerce Times, Glossy, and Business Insider, making it her job to follow the trends and changes of the fashion market. Shelly is intimately involved in all projects, ensuring that the creation and development of materials and ideas are both on-brand and on-target – a crucial insight in an ever-evolving digital space.

With over 20 years in software and development, Paul Healion creates frictionless sites with seamlessly crafted architecture. Paul served as Chief Architect at Spiralfrog.com, building online solutions content creators such as Maxim, Blender, and Stuff Magazines, as well as back-end systems for Marie Claire, Now Magazine, and more. He also developed proprietary financial services software for The Hartford Insurance Group and GE Financial Assurances. At 1R, he is an essential part of every site build. By handling the technical aspects of every project, Paul is able to make sure each experience works from start to finish to post-launch support.
Co-Founder & Strategic Advisor
With over 40 years experience in the fashion retail market, Howard Socol has been credited with expanding and increasing the value of numerous brands and department stores around the United States. Beginning his career at Burdines, a division of Federated Department Stores, he worked his way up to Chairman and CEO in the ‘80s, growing the company from $475 million to $1.4 billion. As Chief Executive Officer of JCrew from 1998 to 1999, Howard expanded digital sales from $6 million to $30 million. Next, Howard was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Barneys New York from 2001 to 2008 where he increased the store’s value from $125 million to its sale value in 2007 of $943 million, reestablishing Barney’s as one of the great luxury retailers. Since 2006, Howard has served as a mentor to designers on the Vogue-CFDA Fashion Fund and has continued to this day investing and advising in a variety of brands and companies. Howard offers strategic advice to 1R’s management team and invaluable mentorship to its clients across all verticals.
